Overview

InPort XML Loader

The InPort XML Loader allows users to upload Catalog Items into InPort in a custom XML format.

To create a new Data Set from an InPort XML file, navigate to the catalog item that will be the parent of this new Data Set. Under the Item Actions menu, click on the link, "Upload InPort XML."

To update an existing Data Set from an InPort XML file, navigate to the Data Set you wish to update. Under the Item Actions menu, click on the link, "Update from InPort XML."

FGDC Uploader

The FGDC Uploader allows users to create or update Data Sets through the upload of an XML file in standard FGDC format.

To create a new Data Set from an FGDC file, navigate to the catalog item that will be the parent of this new Data Set. Under the Item Actions menu, click on the link, "Upload FGDC."

To update an existing Data Set from an FGDC file, navigate to the Data Set you wish to update. Under the Item Actions menu, click on the link, "Update from FGDC."

Caution: When updating a Data Set from an FGDC file, nearly all information will be overwritten. In the upcoming 3.4.0 Release (mid-December 2015), the FGDC Uploader will be modified to preserve all PARR/DMP-related information which does not have an equivalent field in FGDC.

Entity Extract Script (Oracle to InPort XML)

The Entity Extract Script allows users using Oracle databases to extract their table, view, and materialized view information into InPort XML files, which can then be uploaded into InPort using the InPort XML Loader.

Download the script below, for Oracle 10g Release 2 or later, using SQL Plus, SQL Developer 4.0+, or TOAD 10.0+.

Detailed instructions on usage of this script are provided within the file.

If you are migrating over to the new script from the old legacy extract script, please view the help information on differences in the new script.

Legacy Entity Extract Loader

A new, enhanced feature is available.
As of Release 3.8.0, Oracle entity information can be extracted with a new script which produces InPort XML files for upload. It is recommended to switch over to the new extract script, as the old legacy script will eventually be phased out.

The Legacy Entity Extract Loader allows users using Oracle databases to upload Entity information to InPort.

Step 1

A SQL script must first be run to extract the DB information. This will generate an extract file (.lis).

To generate an extract file, download the extract creation script below, for Oracle 10g Release 2 or later, using SQL Plus, SQL Developer 3.0+, or TOAD 10.0+.

Use the older extract scripts for Oracle 10g Release 1 or earlier.

Step 2

The LIS extract file must be loaded into InPort.

To upload the LIS extract file, navigate to the Project which contains the Data Set for which the Entity information will be attached to. Under the Item Actions menu, click on the link, "Upload Entity Extract."

Step 3

The uploaded file must now be validated and loaded into InPort by use of the Table / Column Loader tool.

Note: For a temporary period of time (until the Table / Column Loader has been migrated off of Oracle Forms), only Librarians and System Administrators will be able use the Loader with their existing Oracle accounts. If you need to use the Table / Column Loader but are not a Librarian or System Admin, please contact Support to request access.

Library Manager

The Library Manager is a tool for use by Librarians to manage their library, persons, and roles under their respective Organizations. Only users with a Librarian role can use these functions.
